Challenge Overview: This was a repeat customer, who was looking for a much needed aesthetic and functional update to their primary ensuite bathroom. A lack of storage and functionality was immediately sited. A large deck soaker tub took up the majority of the bathroom space, which they did not utilize, and blocked usage of a rather large window. They were interested in updating things in a way that would be timeless and pretty, but also age with them within the space from an ADA standpoint.
Process Overview: These clients are great to work with, because they know what they like and do not like. They came into the design process with their list of ideas and challenges within the existing space, as well as an overall idea of what they wanted the space to feel like from a materials perspective. I worked closely with her to find the perfect materials to fit her tile and quartz design inspiration, all while staying within the project budget. I also provided a “his” and “hers” compromise, to help give both parties a happy meeting in the middle of the “want list”!
Customized Solution: The existing shower was extremely closed in, with just a small doorway, so by removing half the wall, and replacing it with a stationary glass panel to match the shower door, it will allow more natural light. A lot of thought was put into the tile selection, from the faux wood porcelain floor planks, to the two different mosaics on the shower floor and in the niche, to the gorgeous marble look on the shower walls… We wanted to ensure that this bathroom gave a classy, elegant look. A large in-wall shower niche runs along the backwall for ample shower storage, and a large bench allows for relaxation and respite. The custom three drawer sink base cabinets, which were “chased” around the plumbing to provide ample “his and hers” storage at each respective vanity station. A matching “Johnny Wall” cabinet was added above the commode to provide even more additional storage for toilet paper, and overflow. Backlit mirrors, wall mounted vanity lighting, as well as zoned can lights, provide ample lighting.
